TIP Welcomes New Volunteers

Tip-Grads TIP of AZ welcomes 4 new volunteers to the organization at the April volunteer meeting. The 4 graduates completed the Volunteer Training Academy which consists of 55 hours of intensive training. Training includes information on “emotional first aid”, practical assistance, along with how to work on scenes with law enforcement, firefighters, medical examiners office, funeral homes, and various other resources. TIP TEEN Wins Award

TIP Teen Honored with Award On the news, you hear a lot of negative comments about today’s youth, but then someone like Amber Fillingim comes along. In March, one of our TIP Teens, Amber Fillingim, was honored with The Violet Richardson Award from the Soroptimist of Prescott Valley. The award was presented to Amber at a Soroptimist Banquet on March 14th at Stoneridge Country Club.

Amber was chosen for this award because of an essay she wrote about her work with Trauma Intervention Programs of Arizona, Inc. The award consists of a cash prize of $250 for Amber and a $250 donation to the Yavapai West Chapter of TIP. Amber went above and beyond, and donated her cash prize to TIP.

Amber is now one of three finalists for the regional award, and will be attending an awards banquet in Albuquerque, NM in May.

TIP received grant funding from the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Prescott to start a TIP Teen Program. Amber was one of the first teens to graduate. TIP is grateful to the JCF for helping us start the TIP Teen program which has brought such an outstanding young woman into our program. When many teens are busy texting and playing video games, Amber is selflessly giving back to the community.

Meet Our Volunteers!

Kay G. Kay G. - Yavapai West Chapter

How long have you been a TIP Volunteer? 1 year.

Family? I have a brother who lives in the Verde Valley.

What do you do outside of TIP? I represent Faith Baptist Church, volunteers with the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce, serve as the block watch captain for my neighborhood, and am a member of the Prescott Valley Police Foundation.

What do you like about being a TIP Volunteer? TIP is the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. Helping total strangers in their hour of need is such a special privilege. It is amazing how people of all ages and backgrounds respond to the help we give.

Carolyn C. Carolyn C. - Yavapai East Chapter

How long have you been a TIP Volunteer? 2 years & 2 months

Family? I have four children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandson. I am blessed to have two of my children living in the area.

What do you do outside of TIP? I love spending time with my children, walking my dog, and quilting. I also love to travel, and want to do it more.

What do you like about being a TIP Volunteer? I like giving something back to the community. Like we say “no one should be alone at a time of trauma.” Helping others, even if it’s in a small way, can be rewarding.

Support Your Neighbors In Crisis

NO ONE SHOULD BE ALONE DURING THEIR DARKEST HOURS

Tragedy can strike anyone at any moment. A fire could destroy a family’s home. A wife becomes a widow in a matter of moments. An auto accident can change a child’s life forever. We see it in the news everyday. TIP Volunteers are available every moment of the day to respond at a moment’s notice to assist a stranger in need.

This year, we hope that you will consider giving a gift to your neighbors by supporting the Trauma Intervention Program. Any donation, great or small, is deeply appreciated. In 2008, we are also kicking off our Wonderful 100 Club. We are looking for 100 individuals and businesses to donate $100. TIP of Arizona, Inc is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible.

We appreciate your support of the community and wish you a happy and safe new year!

You may donate online now, or print the form below.
