March 2009 TIP Graduation

TIP Teen Honored with Award The Yavapai West Chapter of TIP of AZ was pleased to welcome ten new volunteers to the organization at the March volunteer meeting. The new volunteers began their training in February, and learned about emotional first aid, working with fire, police, and hospital agencies, local resources, and completed ride alongs with police officers and fire crews.

“Training to become a TIP Volunteer is intensive and thorough. It takes a very special person to be able to walk into someone’s life during their darkest hours and give them support and guidance. We are so proud of all of our volunteers, and welcome our new graduates” says TIP of AZ Executive Director, Sue Rutherford.

Meet Our Volunteers!

Kim P. Kim P. - Yavapai West Chapter

How long have you been a TIP Volunteer? 6 months

Family? I have one daughter, Michelle, who is 22 years old. I also have three frisky dogs that keep me laughing. Zappa – Standard Schnauzer, Gomez – German Shepherd, and Dora - German Shepherd/Beagle mix; and two horses, Jesse – Thoroughbred, Sonny – Welsh/Quarter mix. Back in Illinois are my incredible parents, three brothers, two sisters and their spouses, and numerous nephews and nieces and their growing families.

How long have you lived in the area? I moved to Chino Valley in May of 2005.

What do you do outside of TIP? I am employed full-time at North Central University. I am also a volunteer Big Sister to Miranda, a wonderful 15 year old. I enjoy gardening, taking care of my animals, horseback riding, and working out.

What do you like about being a TIP Volunteer? I appreciate learning from an incredible group of volunteers, and am fortunate to assist those in need.

Faye K. Faye K. - Yavapai East Chapter

How long have you been a TIP Volunteer? 1 year

Family? I have one extremely supportive husband, Steve, three grown children, and six incredible grandchildren.

How long have you lived in the area? We've lived in the Village of Oak Creek for almost nine years. We moved to Sedona from Northridge, California (earthquake country).

What do you do outside of TIP? I have been a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children (CASA) for over eight years. We are privileged to have a wonderful Superior Court Judge, Robert Brutinel, who knows every CASA by name. I am also Vice-president of CASA Children's Center, which raises money to award grants to needy children.

I am delighted to be a volunteer for the Jewish Community of Sedona & the Verde Valley. We're having another Deli Day on April 22nd. Enjoy an authentic Cornned Beef Sandwich, with all the trimmings!

In my spare time, I play Mah Jongg, Bridge, and have fun with my hunk of a husband and our two rescued cockapoos.

What do you like about being a TIP Volunteer? I like being a TIP because the training was and continues to be fantastic. I truly feel that I make a difference with our client survivors. I can't fix it, which makes this volunteer work incredibly freeing.

Support Your Neighbors In Crisis

NO ONE SHOULD BE ALONE DURING THEIR DARKEST HOURS

Tragedy can strike anyone at any moment. A fire could destroy a family’s home. A wife becomes a widow in a matter of moments. An auto accident can change a child’s life forever. We see it in the news everyday. TIP Volunteers are available every moment of the day to respond at a moment’s notice to assist a stranger in need.

This year, we hope that you will consider giving a gift to your neighbors by supporting the Trauma Intervention Program. Any donation, great or small, is deeply appreciated. In 2008, we are also kicking off our Wonderful 100 Club. We are looking for 100 individuals and businesses to donate $100. TIP of Arizona, Inc is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and your donation is tax deductible.

We appreciate your support of the community and wish you a happy and safe new year!

You may donate online now, or print the form below.
